Medical Inadmissibility

The Migrant Action Centre vehemently condemns the current medical inadmissibility policy in Canada, which denies entry to individuals based on perceived or actual health conditions. This policy is unjust, discriminatory, and violates the basic human rights of migrants.

Medical inadmissibility is based on the false premise that migrants with health conditions place an excessive burden on Canada's healthcare system. In reality, this policy unfairly targets vulnerable individuals and families, including refugees fleeing persecution and those seeking reunification with their loved ones. It is a cruel and inhumane policy that tears families apart and denies people the opportunity to live safely and securely in Canada.

The policy also ignores the fact that many individuals and families who are deemed medically inadmissible have significant social and economic ties to Canada and contribute to our communities in meaningful ways. They are our neighbours, co-workers, friends, and loved ones, who add to the fabric of our society and make us a more vibrant and diverse nation.

The Migrant Action Centre calls on the government of Canada to immediately repeal the medical inadmissibility policy and to adopt a human rights-based approach to migration and health. We believe that everyone should have the right to access health care, regardless of their immigration status or perceived health conditions. This is a basic human right and a matter of compassion and decency.

We also call on the government to ensure that individuals and families who have been unfairly impacted by the medical inadmissibility policy are offered a pathway to regularization and reunification. The thought of families being separated and loved ones being denied the opportunity to care for each other is heart-wrenching and unacceptable.

The Migrant Action Centre is committed to building a more just and inclusive society, where everyone is valued and treated with dignity and respect. We will continue to fight for the rights of migrants and to challenge policies and systems that perpetuate inequality and discrimination. The medical inadmissibility policy is a stain on our nation's reputation as a welcoming and compassionate society, and we must work together to end this injustice once and for all.
