Standing Together in Solidarity: Help Us Rebuild the Migrant Action Centre

Dear comrades,

We come to you today with heavy hearts, as we must share with you some devastating news. The Migrant Action Centre has suffered a substantial loss of funds due to the misappropriation of collective funds by a former Board Member of the Social Justice Co-operative of Newfoundland and Labrador (SJCNL), a closely allied organization that holds our funds in trust. We have lost almost all of our money leaving behind less than $50.

For us at the Migrant Action Centre, this loss is not just a financial setback, it is an emotional one. It is a setback for our mission to build collective voice, collective power, and solidarity by organizing migrants and supporters across Canada. It is a setback for the fight against the injustices that migrants face, for the work we do to organize for our inclusion in society, and for the advancement of our rights.

As we process this loss, we are reminded of the resilience of the migrant community. They are individuals who have left their homes, their families, and their countries in search of a better life. They are people who have faced challenges, discrimination, and exploitation, and yet they continue to strive for a brighter future. They are people who, despite facing incredible odds, remain hopeful and optimistic.

In times like these, we must stand together in solidarity. We must come together as a community to support those who are struggling, and to help rebuild what has been lost. We must be the voice of hope and the force of change that will enable us to build a better future for all.

At the Migrant Action Centre, we remain committed to our mission, and we will not be deterred by this setback. We will continue to work tirelessly to advance the rights of migrants, to advocate for their inclusion in society, and to fight against the injustices they face. We ask you to join us in this work.

We are calling on our community to consider making a donation, fundraising for us, and/or volunteering your time to help us recover from this loss. Your support will go directly towards helping us rebuild our organization, provide essential services to migrants, and continue to organize for migrant justice. We urge you to donate what you can, no matter how small, and to spread the word to your networks to help us reach as many people as possible.

Together, we can overcome this setback and continue our work towards building a just and equitable society for all. We are determined to keep moving forward, to stand strong in solidarity, and to build a better future for everyone.

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our cause.

Sincerely,

The Migrant Action Centre Team.
